THINGS TO DO IN SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco in Northern California sits at the northern end of the San Francisco peninsula and is known for its hilly streets and often foggy climate.
With its modern public transportation system and historic trams and streetcars it is easy to get about in this city. A popular mode of transport for locals is by bicycle and our North American team have sourced some great ways to see the city, some modern some historic.
HISTORICAL SAN FRANCISCO
The city of San Francisco was first settled by a Spanish exploration party in 1769 and, similar to Los Angeles, was ceded to Mexico in 1821.
Following the Mexican-American war in 1848 the city became part of the United States. Unfortunately San Francisco sits close to the San Andreas and Hayward faults and many historic buildings have been lost during the many earthquakes but the historic centre of the city is around Market Street and the waterfront.
If you are visiting the iconic Golden Gate Bridge why not add in a visit to Fort Point which is situate at the foot of the bridge to discover the history of the bay. See the city from an original Cable Car or visit the San Francisco Cable Car Museum.
